Spring-Clean Your Body with These 6 Liver- and Gut-Cleansing Foods
Spring-Clean Your Body with These 6 Liver- and Gut-Cleansing Foods Spring-cleaning your apartment or house is what you learn you should do at a very early age. You see your parents do it than you do it.It becomes a ritual, a healthy way of running the household. Thorough cleaning brings new energy to your home and it all feels better after it.Some would say your body is essentially your first and only house, a temple even if you will. So, why not do a spring clean of your own body?It just takes a little bit of effort and information on your side, the body will do all the work for you.If you think of your body as of a house, your organs are the houses tenants: they all have their characters and roles. What you need to do is understand which organ deals with cleansing your body from toxins and give them a little push.Liver and gut are in the front line of toxin defense (along with them, there are others like kidneys and skin; however, we will focus on the first two in this text).Food is one the fuel our body gets to work through the day.The bad and the good effects of specific foods are well known and people usually act instinctively on what they should eat to feel well. Some foods are most beneficial for your brain, some for your heart and some for your other organs.LIVERThe liver is a very special organ in that aspect that it is the only organ that regenerates itself.A grown persons liver weighs about 3 pounds (1.4kg).In liver transplant patients you can take as little as 7oz (200 grams) and in a few months, it will grow to full size.It is located beneath the diaphragm on the upper part of the abdomen, and on its right side. The liver has many functions, as far as 500) that are vital for the bodys proper functioning. The liver is important for regulating metabolic processes in the body breaking down and building up and changing substances, extracting energy and detoxing. It is also responsible for storing extra blood sugar, fights infections and aids blood clotting. The liver consists of cells called hepatocytes that receive and fil ter the nutrients from the blood (at any time, there is around 15 percent of the bodys blood in the liver). The hepatocytes decide whether the arriving nutrients will be stored, eliminated through stool (which is why the intestines are functionally connected to the liver), processed or returned to the blood.Another function is producing bile that is responsible for producing bile that goes to the small intestine and breaks down fats. The part of the bile that is not used at the moment is stored in the gallbladder and excreted when needed. The liver stores excess fat or releases it when the body needs energy. When it is eliminating toxins, the liver converts them (imagine this as deactivating a virus) into smaller substances and sends them to the colon to be eliminated.A healthy liver is crucial for functioning since a person cannot live without it.The symptoms of an unhealthy liver range from those easily overlooked like fatigue, nausea, loss of appetite and some more serious ones like jaundice, dark urine, swelling and so on. GUTGut is a word that is used to describe various things from the entire gastrointestinal tract (from the mouth all the way to the anus) to metaphorical (like the gut feeling you have about something). Here we will focus on defining it as intestines with the emphasis on the large intestine, or colon, as it is the part that needs spring-cleaning the most. The large intestine is located in your abdomen, surrounding your small intestine like a frame. It is about 1.5 meters long (small intestine is about 6m long) but it is significantly narrower than the small intestine. The function of the colon is to absorb the remaining nutrients from the processed foods (water, vitamin K) however, the biggest part of the absorption goes through the small intestine.Another basic function of the colon is to compress the undigested parts of food, take out water by absorbing it and turning the undigested materials into the stool, so it can be passed. How does the co lon do that?Well, it has a large number of bacteria and bacteria types that are called gut microbiome, a rich ecosystem that performs a variety of functions in your body.It breaks down food that cant be digested, produces valuable nutrients (vitamin K), regulates the immune system and protects against harmful germs.Medications, environment and diet affect the balance of the guts good bacteria. You cant control all the factors all the time, but you can take care of what you are eating. When we eat foods that are not good for the gut, we essentially starve the good bacteria which in turn make us low on energy, causes some medical conditions and weight problems.WHY IS DETOXING IMPORTANT?In our everyday lives, we get in touch with all kinds of toxins be it through food, water, air and so on.We are basically poisoning ourselves gradually consciously and unconsciously.Smoking, eating too much or eating heavy foods, drinking alcohol, being exposed to various chemicals are all the reasons tha t affect the intoxication of our organism, which, in turn, can cause various illnesses (hepatic coma, irritable bowel syndrome, obesity, fatigue and so on).Everybody knows that feeling you get after binge eating over the holidays, or partying a little too much Your energy is low, you constantly feel tired and sleepy, some people are even depressed or agitated, all in all, you are not at your best. This is because your body is spending too much of its energy trying to process all those harmful substances, and because the toxins inherently have a bad influence on your well-being.Your body has a natural way of flushing out toxins from your body and it works just enough to keep you healthy and feeling well if you are having a balanced life. The liver can process an occasional glass of wine without much additional effort but in times of excess or inappropriate consumption of (certain) foods and products your body gets overworked and tired and needs some help to rest and regain its strength for optimal functioning. This is where detoxing comes in, and what better time to do it than in the spring, after all the holiday leftovers are gone and the parties are scarcer.Detoxing diets usually last for about two to three weeks where you should avoid certain foods and food groups and focus on others. Some other detoxes can last for about one to three days. Those are the so-called quick detoxes and you can do them more often than once or twice a year like a spring-clean (or fall) detox.Pay attention that they are not a magic eraser that will wipe out all the negative influences of an unbalanced life. The quick detoxes are usually based on the consumption of liquids only which can make you feel fatigued due to low-calorie intake and even due to the very fast toxin flushing that does not get metabolized quickly enough so rather than feeling better you actually feel way worse for a short period of time.So do not make this a habit. If you want a healthy gut and liver, practice a balanc ed diet that will provide you with enough nutrients to get through the day feeling energized and on top of your strengths.WHAT ARE THE FOODS THAT ARE LIVER AND GUT-FRIENDLY?What is the thing you should do first? There is no point at doing a liver or gut detox if you are still loading up on foods that strain your liver and gut.Pay attention that during this spring clean you stay away from alcohol, packaged and processed foods, especially conventional meats, and dairy as they are full of pesticides, herbicides, and GMO residue steroids, and so on.Another thing worth paying attention to is the fact that, during the cleanse, the food should be thermally processed as less as possible. The best option is to consume raw foods and if this is difficult try sautéed or light steamed foods. Each person is different, so if you find that some foods on this list usually have a negative effect on you; like giving you heartburn or some other discomfort avoid that one and try with the others.Do not fol low the list blindly, trust your body, it knows what feels good.SO WHAT FOODS ARE GOOD FOR YOUR GUT AND LIVER?Some general guidelines are that in order to do a liver and gut cleanse you should focus your diet on high fiber, whole grains, nuts, seeds and beans, and probiotic and antioxidant-rich foods.1. Water Essentially, water does not get processed in the liver, and gut only absorbs it.However, the fact that you re consuming more water and refrain from using alcohol and sweetened juices provides the liver with the possibility to rest, regenerate and process other substances that you take in.It will help flush out the harmful substances through kidneys and skin.Along with that, it aids the natural peristaltic of the colon, which is the bowel movement, and a regular bowel movement aids in toxin removal as well.If the bowel movement is not regular the toxins from the stool go back to the liver.Doctors suggest drinking a minimum of eight and a maximum of 12 glasses of water a day is t he best option, depending on your weight and activity during the day.You can absorb water through teas, natural vegetable or fruit juices and water-rich foods like cucumbers and watermelons as well.2. Apple (juice) and Apple Cider VinegarAn apple a day keeps the doctor away?Seems about right if you consider the effect they have on a digestive system and liver health.Apples are packed with fibers which help the bowel movement and provides for toxin break down. You can consume them raw or like a juice. They are rich in malic acid and pectin that help dispose of toxins and cancerogenic, as well as polyphenols that are naturally found in the liver. They also have an anti-inflammatory characteristic that prevents you from developing a condition known as fatty liver.Apple cider vinegar is a traditional medicine for all kinds of ailments. It can help digestion if the environment is not acid enough.Due to various enzymes, minerals and specific acids it is great for any detox. The acids can attac h to the toxins and allow them to leave your body.Mix a tablespoon or two in a glass of lukewarm water in the morning to help digestion and flush out toxins.3. FlaxseedThe flaxseed is a high-fiber food which in itself helps in cleansing the large intestine through the bowel movements. What is interesting is that it has two types of fiber: soluble (up to 40 percent) and insoluble (up to 80 percent). Both types of fiber have their own respective effects on the colon they increase the bowel movement and prevent and cure constipation. In turn, this aids the liver in doing its job as it is not overworked by processing toxins from the stool that remains in your body. The flaxseed is rich in antioxidants and omega:3 fatty acids which also helps the liver and colon cleansing.Since it is rich in fiber, a single tablespoon of flaxseeds makes up a 13 percent of the bodys desired daily fiber intake.Mix a tablespoon with a glass of yogurt and leave in the fridge overnight for the seeds to swell, ea t it in the morning, it will keep you full for a long time.4. Leafy Green and Cruciferous VegetablesLeafy green vegetables are spinach, lettuce, chicory and so on.Why are they beneficial? They protect your liver by neutralizing chemicals, metals, and pesticides that you get in touch with either through food or through air and water. They soak up the harmful substances and help your liver function properly.Another thing they do is that they aid bile excretion which is crucial for digestion and breaking down fats. You can eat them raw, steamed and prepared in a juicer. They go well with cruciferous vegetables like cabbage, cauliflower, and broccoli. The two types of vegetables combined in a smoothie or a juice and mixed with a little lemon juice supply you with a powerful ally in the detoxing process.Removing the environmental toxins with leafy greens and providing a better peristaltic to the colon keeps the harmful toxins out of your body.5. GarlicGarlic has several effects on your liver .Firstly, it contains amino acids that dilate blood vessels which lower blood pressure in the liver and the liver contains a lot of blood.Secondly, it is full of selenium which helps antioxidants perform their detoxing role.Lastly, the vitamin B6 in the garlic acts as an anti-inflammatory agent for your liver.Consume it daily in your diet, and if you are reluctant to use it due to the garlic breath it causes, there are dehydrated garlic capsules for odorless use.6. Citruses Like Lemons, Limes, and GrapefruitsCitruses are rich in antioxidants and vitamin C and as such, they are a great addition to forcing out toxins from your liver and colon.Grapefruits also contain a substance named glutathione which the liver naturally produces as well. Why is it important?Glutathione plays a significant part in strengthening your immune system, building and repairing of tissue and producing proteins that are of necessity for the body.Eat whole oranges and grapefruits or juice them, it is your choic e. A smaller glass of grapefruit juice a day is enough (juice of one or two grapefruits) t get you started. You can even chose to add a little lemon juice to a glass of lukewarm water in the morning to cause bowel movements and colon cleansing. Some people claim that it has the same effect as coffee in waking them up in the morning.Note: After you have thoroughly detoxed your body, you should strive to keep the organs healthy. Yogurt and kefir are foods that help with that. They are rich in probiotics that protect the colons mucus and prevent bad bacteria from inhabiting it. (We mentioned before that processed milk is on the dont use category, however, if yogurts have less sugar and more active agents they are actually great for your colon).Curd is what you should use to regenerate the livers hepatocytes.Easily digested and mild it is used as a regenerating treatment for hepatitis, fatty liver, and cirrhosis patients.WHAT ELSE CAN YOU DO?So we went through produce you can consume duri ng the spring-cleanse of your liver and gut.But is that the only thing that can help you detox? As the matter of fact is, it is not. There are other things that you can do to improve your overall health and help more toxins leave your body.Exercise participating in a sweating-out session does wonders for your body and for your mind. The water you are taking in comes out through your bowels and urine, however, a part of it comes out through sweat as well.Exercising will make more toxins come out and even faster than if you are not exercising. The physical activity will leave you craving even more water, so it all conveniently works for you.The physical movement can make lazy bowel work better as well. You might feel reluctant to exercise when you are feeling full, but this is just the thing you need to overcome. You will experience the benefits very soon.If you are not big on exercising, try yoga, it is a low impact activity and offers poses that are specifically designed to help your d igestion problems. Detox your mind medicine, especially ancient medicine like Greek and Chinese, deals with the connection of the physical illnesses and the mind. They explore how the mind affects the body, and vice versa. It is logical to us that a painful sensation that lasts long can affect our mood making us irritable or sad, however, there is a process that goes the other way round. When you feel a certain emotion it reflects on your body. If you are happy you are more energetic and so on.So how does this apply to liver and gut?Have you ever felt afraid of something and experienced a sensation of gut tied in a knot (like get constipated or even get diarrhea before an important exam)? When you are angry, for example, it reflects badly on your liver (stir up bile). This is employed in the four types of peoples personality where choleric (fast, short-tempered, irritable) and melancholic (analytical, quiet, anxious) are related to yellow and black bile respectively.Get rid of any negat ive emotional influence, forgive and forget, manage your stress. Remember that negative emotions hurt you and your organs.FINAL WORDTo sum up, your liver and your gut do more than pull their weight to keep you healthy and happy. They remove and break down toxins and help your metabolism work perfectly. However, from time to time, you need to take a few weeks and help them do their job, especially if you were binge eating or drinking in the past few weeks or months.Implementing some foods into your diet once or twice a year in a form of spring/fall-clean of your body can do wonders for you.You will be healthier, feel more energized, lighter.Your skin will glow and you will feel good. So, why not do that this spring? However, pay attention not to think of those cleanses as a means to magically erase the consequences of a badly balanced life, where you consume food full of pesticides, alcohol and other harmful substances.Moderating and modifying your nutrition, exercising and living peace fully even after the spring-cleaning period has passed may be the key to the long-term health of your organs.

Being made under the name of both the renowned company, it will get easier for the product to capitalize the market. As Ray Ban and Ferrari are on its peak in their particular target markets, so this acts as an advantage to the company for the sale of their product. Strength of the product is its specialized classic designed collection, this initiates the customers to purchase the product firstly due to the product design and secondly due to the brand image (Scott, 2015). Weakness: Ferrari and Ray ban both companies sell premium brand product in the market. also the company Ferrari Scuderia sponsors ray ban goggles with a view to earn profit from the product manufactured, due to which both the companies will include their profit margin in the product. This arrangement will lead to increase in price of the product. Although it is known that F1 collection is itself a premium product, still the price of the product shall be affordable by all. But only few people in the target market cant afford this collection which acts as a drawback for the company (Ryan, 2016). Opportunities: opportunities are chances which the company and products receives with the use of which they gain capitalization in their market. The benefits of Ray Ban are that they provide differentiated products in the market with UV protection glasses in them. Threats: this product is currently invented in the market, o there are already many competitors of the product existing in the market. So, in order to increase the sales the product firstly need to settle itself in the market by creating product differentiation. It can act as a threat for the company to cut the competition and initiate sustainable working of its business (Suh, 2014). Competitor Analysis The major competitor of the F1 collection of Ferrari is Oakley. Although Oakley and ray ban comes in the same parent group which is Luxottica, there is a cut throat competition between the products. After ray ban Oakley is the second best company prevailing in the market, it holds a major market share. Oakley produces stylish eyewear, due to which ray ban somehow saves itself as the stream which ray ban follow is classic collection and Oakley manufactures fashionable glasses (Bull, et. al., 2016). Mission Ray ban was introduced in the year 1837, since then it is the aim of the company to flourish the market with their products. Being a newly introduced product in the market, the main financial aim of the company is create sustainability of the product in the target market. Reduce the cost of production and increase profit margin. Initiate repetitive sales. So, the above mentioned are the six monthly goals which the company aspires t fulfill with the help of marketing plan (Cezar, Raghunathan, 2016). Marketing Mix Marketing mix a part of marketing plan which helps the company to gather information about the product, its best price, the place in which it shall be situated and the mode of promotion through which company shall circulate information about the product. The design of the product has unique mirror acrodynamic design which assist people comfort along with style. The additional specialty of the product is that it is design with the view of Ferrari and manufactured by ray ban, so the quality of both the companies are included in it. Also the product comes under the guarantee period which helps the customers to build trust on the product and the company as well (Journeault, De Ronge, Henri, 2016). Price: Ray ban uses price skimming techniques to decide the prices of the product which shall be offered in the market. Price skimming refers to techniques of selling the product at a prices which enables the company to gain higher return in the market. Only the skimmed customers shall buy this product as the prices are kept high by the company. also the company enjoys the first mover advantage, as the product ad technique used in the market is new due to which the company can quote any price of the product according to their on which buyers shall purchase the product (Stone, 2016). Place: it refers to the availability of the product in the market. As it is known, that both the companies Ferrari and ray ban have their outlets at different parts of the world due to which it will get easy for the product to place them in the market. The F1 collection of ray would also channel itself through same medium from which ray ban channelize their other products in the market. Further as the company wishes to increase the market share, so with the introduction this product in the market, ray ban can setup their outlets at different places as well. So, lastly it can be said that they product will not find it difficult to place itself in the market as Ferrari and ray ban are already holding a major market share (Signori, Flint, 2016). Promotion: it refers to the mode through which the company promotes it product in the market. In order to introduce a new product in the market, the first thing which a company needs to do is communicate adequate information about the product in the market. So, the company shall promote this product through social media websites. As most of the people now make purchase through online websites, so it is considered as the best means through which the company shall promote their product in the market. They shall communicate and circulate the information of the product through their websites as well so that all prospective people get to know about the new product development made by the company (Baker, Saren, 2016). Digital Marketing Communication Plan To spread the product in the market, the company needs to circulate adequate information about the product in the market. For that purpose as discussed earlier, the company initiates to use digital media for promoting the product in the target market. They shall inform people regarding the specification of the product through emails, messages etc. Apart from that they shall initiate drone technology to introduce the product in the target market. Digital communication in todays world is necessary as it helps the company to communicate with mass at a same time (Guzmn, Davis, 2017). Action plan to achieve objective Following actions shall be taken into process to fulfill the marketing and financial objectives of the product. The company shall implement differentiation in their product so that repeated sales are made by the customer. This will also reduce the competition which will automatically affect the sale of the company positively. Customer base of the company can be only increased in the company by providing quality products and services to the customers of the company. Thus, the management shall strictly following the quality parameter so as to increase the customer base. For setting up outlets in other places, the company shall firstly improve the sales to the level of that new stores are required in the market. Adding to it, they shall also setup their outlet at the places where the product is highly demanded in the market (LUCCHETTA, 2016). Sustainability is one of the important aspects of the company which shall be maintained and followed by all. The company shall work in such a way that sustainable future of the product is maintained in the market. Efficient usage of resources shall be made so that cost of production decrees and profit margin increases. Repetitive sales are one of the biggest factors of growth of a company. It helps the product to gain the competitive edge in the market. Repetitive sales happen only when the customer gets satisfied with the quality of the product. So the company shall develop genuine quality product to initiate repetitive sales (Mosca, Giacosa, 2016). Implementation and control of plan The company shall implement the plan in such a way that it provides benefits to both the companies along with the customers. They shall initiate form a marketing plan for the management which shall be strict followed by al the employee of the company. Assisting to it the manager shall scrutinize the activities of the employees initiated in the market. Further new recruits shall be hired which shall provide ideas to the company better optimization resources and creating better sales. So in this way the marketing plan shall be implemented in the organization to achieve sustainability along with better sales (Sarkar, Sarkar, 2016). In order to control the managerial activities of the management, it is the duty of the manager to inspect and scrutinize the activities of the management. Further control can be initiated in the management by giving adequate authority and responsibility in the management. With this the employees of the company will become accountable towards fulfillment of their duties resulting to which control will get initiated in the management. The management shall make plans and execute them, at the end of the plan they shall retrospect the outcomes with the planned outcome. Deviation shall be identified and control measures shall be implementing to resolve the issue (Baker, Saren, 2016). Conclusion Thus, in the limelight of above mentioned events the fact that shall be noticed is that the company ray bay is a highly efficient company constantly growing in the global market. Further, the new product introduced in the market shall be promoted though social media websites so as to increase the sales of the company. 5 Tips for Writing an Amazing Villanova Essay
5 Tips for Writing an Amazing Villanova Essay SAT / ACT Prep Online Guides and Tips Villanova University is a private, Catholic research university in Pennsylvania. With a 36 percent acceptance rate, itââ¬â¢s considered moderately competitive- but even that level has an average GPA just shy of 4.0. But acceptance to Villanova isnââ¬â¢t just about your test scores and GPA; youââ¬â¢ll also need to nail the Villanova supplement essay, rounding out your application with a strong representation of yourself. In this guide, weââ¬â¢ll cover all of Villanovaââ¬â¢s essay prompts and how to best answer them, including potential topics and pitfalls. Find yourself a quiet place and a good study playlist. What Are the Villanova Essay Prompts? Villanova University only accepts the Common Application. In addition to the required Common Application essay question, youââ¬â¢ll be writing one additional supplement specifically for Villanova. Just one supplemental essay is required, but youââ¬â¢ll have three prompts to choose from. Your response should be one page, double-spaced, in length. No prompt is inherently better than the others - pick whichever appeals to you most. Each one is unique to Villanova, and they all have some unique twists on the expected essay format. We believe that all members of our community should be committed to diversity, equity and inclusion. How would you contribute to this at Villanova? At first, this prompt might look like a typical ââ¬Å"diversity essay.â⬠It mentions diversity, equity, and inclusion, and asks how youââ¬â¢ll contribute However, the first part of the question says that ââ¬Å"all members of our community should be committed toâ⬠¦.â⬠Instead of asking what youââ¬â¢ll contribute to their diverse community, theyââ¬â¢re instead asking what youââ¬â¢ll do to foster diversity. That could mean bringing your unique experiences to campus, but it could also mean looking at how you, personally, will help ensure that everybody feels welcomed and appreciated. How will you contribute to the commitment to diversity? This prompt is fairly unique because it doesnââ¬â¢t just want to know about what separates you from the rest. Villanova also wants to know how youââ¬â¢ll fit in with other students and appreciate their stories and backgrounds. The use of the word ââ¬Ëcommunityââ¬â¢ tells us that this is a campus that values the relationships students build with one another. Appreciating and celebrating diversity is part of that mission. To answer this question, think about the communities you belong to and the ways that they intersect with one another. You can also consider times when youââ¬â¢ve been immersed in another culture- truly immersed, not just watching or participating briefly- and what that meant to you. Be sure that youââ¬â¢re always answering the question of how youââ¬â¢ll commit to diversity at Villanova, not just what youââ¬â¢ve done in the past. A past experience, such as attending a traditional Indian wedding, might have led you to appreciate how different another cultureââ¬â¢s celebrations can be, but Villanova wants to know what youââ¬â¢ll do next. Will you make a point to attend or organize different celebrations on campus? What does your experience with diversity, whether your own or someone elseââ¬â¢s, inspire you to do to foster a welcoming community? On an individual basis, how will you commit to ensuring that the community is full of diversity, equity, and inclusion? When answering this question, avoid coming off as patronizing or condescending. Though a trip to build wells for impoverished communities may have had good intentions, these trips can sometimes do more harm than good. Likewise, volunteering at a soup kitchen isnââ¬â¢t all the impressive if the message you come away with is that youââ¬â¢re glad youââ¬â¢re not homeless. Instead of focusing on yourself and your feelings, take the experience and turn it into actionable ideas. ââ¬Å"Because I saw firsthand how people all around me are suffering, I devoted every Saturday to fundraising for the homeless, a routine I plan to continue at Villanova,â⬠is a lot stronger than, ââ¬Å"Because I saw firsthand how people all around me are suffering, I decided I would spend time every day writing down something Iââ¬â¢m grateful for.â⬠Saint Augustine believed in the essential connection between the mind and the heart. Tell us about a time that your mind and heart were in conflict and how that was resolved. College applications will often ask for an event where your views were challenged and you learned from it. This question is a little different- instead of being an outside challenge, itââ¬â¢s an internal one. Still, Villanova wants to know about how you respond to challenges and how you learn from them. Consider times where youââ¬â¢ve been in conflict with yourself and how you ultimately came to a conclusion. What strategies did you use? Were you ultimately happy with your choice? For example, maybe you struggled with a choice to attend an expensive summer camp that specialized in the field you want to study or to spend your summer working. Both options would be beneficial, but you wanted the summer camp more- only you werenââ¬â¢t sure how you were going to pay for it. Whatever option you chose, thereââ¬â¢s an essay to be found there; maybe you spent the summer working to save up to attend next year, or maybe you sold a video game console you hadnââ¬â¢t played in a while to make sure you could attend this year. The key is that your heart wants one thing (a great summer spent at camp) while your mind wants another (the money to attend that camp) and you found a way to solve the problem. Remember that the prompt states Saint Augustineââ¬â¢s belief in a connection between the mind and heart. How did your ultimate resolution lead to a greater understanding of what both your heart and mind wanted? Were you able to bridge the gap? For this question, avoid topics that are too shallow or that arenââ¬â¢t really conflicts. Donââ¬â¢t write about trying to choose which friend you wanted to spend the weekend with unless it was a really deep decision, and stay away from spending too much time on choices with answers that seem obvious, like whether you should study or play video games. Dig deep on this question and pick something with a clear narrative. Your essay should showcase something about you, whether itââ¬â¢s your work ethic, your passion, or your caring for others. "Each of us strengthens all of us" is a concept that resonates deeply in the Villanova community. While this phrase may mean many different things, one aspect is that Villanovans rely on each other. Share a situation when you have needed help and what you have taken away from this experience. Colleges, especially research universities like Villanova, are all about community and collaboration. You might have a particularly brilliant mind, but thatââ¬â¢s not all it takes to succeed- the ability to work with others is also key, and Villanova wants to hear about how you recognize those who have helped you get to where you are. This is a good opportunity to be humble and acknowledge the support youââ¬â¢ve had along the way. Think about self-reflection, including why you needed help in a particular situation and how the support you received changed your thinking or improved you in some way. This prompt invites you to share your understanding of the importance of collaboration bydiscussing an experience in which others helped you achieve something. Donââ¬â¢t spend too much time worrying about choosing an experience or situation thatââ¬â¢s particularly impressive- instead, focus on something that really demonstrates how important a good team can be. The biggest thing to avoid in answering this question is prioritizing your achievement over the assistance you received. That doesnââ¬â¢t mean you shouldnââ¬â¢t write about a great achievement- if you won an impressive award or invented something new, definitely share that!- but rather that you should focus on showcasing the support that got you there, such as your mother spending time teaching you how to connect circuits or your teacher spending time after school to coach you through curating a perfect photography portfolio. Show Villanova you understand how important it is to work as a team to achieve great things, and you'll be set to impress! Believe it or not, relaxation is an important part of writing your college essays. Key Tips for Writing the Villanova Essay Though Villanovaââ¬â¢s essay prompts are targeted specifically for their school, there are quite a few guidelines you can follow to make your essay strong regardless of what school youââ¬â¢re applying for. Brainstorm Brainstorming doesnââ¬â¢t have to be an intensive process. Beginning a project is often the hardest part; taking a minute or five to get a bunch of ideas down on paper, regardless of their quality, lets you get to work without pressure. Take a deep breath, set a timer, and start jotting down as many ideas as you can think of. Once youââ¬â¢re done, pick the ones that sound most appealing and move on to the next step. Outline Now that you have some ideas, you can start spinning them into outlines. Take a few of the ideas that are most appealing to you and start answering the supplemental questions that should come up in your essay. For example, if youââ¬â¢re answering the first prompt, you should not only be thinking about your personal experiences with diversity, but also how you hope to support equity at Villanova. Sketch out a brief plan for each topic. If you find you donââ¬â¢t have enough points to make, itââ¬â¢s probably not the right idea. Repeat until you have a few outlines to choose from, and then choose the one that you feel strongest about. Write Now that you already have an outline, itââ¬â¢s far easier to actually write your essay. On your first draft, donââ¬â¢t worry too much about staying within the page limit. Donââ¬â¢t even worry about word choice or having something youââ¬â¢re ready to show somebody else. Just focus on getting all of your ideas down on the page so that you have something to do for the next stage. Edit Now comes the point where you start taking what youââ¬â¢ve done and turning it into gold. Editing isnââ¬â¢t just about fine-tuning your grammar and spelling; read your draft aloud to find places where your sentences run on too long, or places where youââ¬â¢ve used the wrong word. Cut extra words and take out sections that arenââ¬â¢t serving your thesis. Be brutal; you can always add things back in if you find you miss them! Get Feedback Once youââ¬â¢ve done a few editing passes on your essay, itââ¬â¢s time for the scariest part: showing it to others. Ask a few people who are invested in your success but who arenââ¬â¢t likely to be too harsh or overly kind in their suggestions- teachers, coaches, and other authority figures are generally good choices- to take a look at your essay and let you know what they think. Let them mark up your draft with any mistakes that they find, and set all that feedback aside for a bit. Itââ¬â¢s a good time to take a break from your essay so that you can come back to it with fresh eyes. Revise Now that youââ¬â¢ve had some time away from your essay, itââ¬â¢s time to revise. Take all that feedback you received and consider it. You donââ¬â¢t have to fix anything that doesnââ¬â¢t feel right to you, but do consider why your reviewers may have made that suggestion. Does your essay lack clarity? Could you have chosen a better word? Why are they confused? Always be sure that your essay sounds like you wrote it, though. Remember: your essay is meant to showcase the things that make you unique. If it reads like every other studentsââ¬â¢ application, itââ¬â¢s not working right! If one of your readers has made big suggestions that donââ¬â¢t sound like something youââ¬â¢d say, rephrase them until they do, or just donââ¬â¢t use them. Itââ¬â¢s more important that your essay represents you. Whatââ¬â¢s Next? A great essay is just one part of a successful Villanova application. Compare And Contrast The Depiction Of London In Upon Westminster Bridge and From A London Drawing Room Essays
Compare And Contrast The Depiction Of London In Upon Westminster Bridge and From A London Drawing Room Essays Compare And Contrast The Depiction Of London In Upon Westminster Bridge and From A London Drawing Room Paper Compare And Contrast The Depiction Of London In Upon Westminster Bridge and From A London Drawing Room Paper Essay Topic: Literature Upon Westminster Bridge sets the scene with the title. The view from Westminster Bridge is what the inspired the poet. From a London Drawing Room gives us the location but also an insight into the poets lifestyle, as only the wealthy had drawing rooms so it shows the poet is quite well off. The location (being the drawing room) means the room is possibly quite dull. As drawing rooms were often used as quiet places for knitting or smoking. This could have influence on the poets negativity during the poem. The setting is very different from Upon Westminster Bridge, Both from the poets writing location (The drawing room) and also the view from the window the poet is looking out of, which could have influence on what the poet sees or hears which effects the poem overall. Upon Westminster Bridge is a 14 line Petrachan sonnet which shows the poets love for the city (as sonnets were usually written about love). The poem is split with a volta after 8 lines which divides the sections. After the volta the poet seems more engaged with his own emotions. The poem is written in first person as an observer of London, giving his own feelings towards London and personal experiences. The rhyme scheme is A,B,B,A,A,B,B,A,C,D,C,C,D,C, the regular amount of rhyming gives it an upbeat more positive feel . The tone is tranquil and it seems the poet is awestruck at Londons greatness. The poem is set in the morning, as stated in line 5. This means London will be quiet and peaceful compared to one written in rush hour where there would be many people trying to move about. From a London Drawing room is written in third person as an observer of London. It has 19 lines and is written in blank verse. It has a consistent rhythm to show the monotony of the buildings she can see from the drawing room and the dullness of it all. The fact there is no rhyme could also reflect the dullness and monotony of the buildings. The tone is pessimistic and gives a very negative view of London using lots of phrases with a negative connotation. There is also no mention of the time or day in From a London Drawing Room but looking at some lines referring to cabs, it could well be rush hour which would affect the poet compared to Upon Westminster Bridge which was written in the peace of the morning. Upon Westminster Bridge begins positively. Earth has not anything to show more fair The poet is being hyperbolic in saying theres nothing more beautiful in the world than London. The poet then makes the point that youre dull if you dont believe this: Dull would he be of soul who could pass by which is even referring to the spiritual side of a person in saying soul. The poet continues explaining his obvious love for the city. By using the word majesty. This illustrates how meaningful London is to the poet. Wordsworth uses personification in comparing London to a person, wearing garments. This city now doth like a garment wear Wordsworth makes the city seem more real by personifying it in making it wear clothes. He uses garment which is also an upper class term making it seem more majestic as he stated in the line before. The poet then discusses the setting of the poem and creates a tranquil and natural feel The beauty of the morning; Silent, bare. Wordsworth uses what are quite often negative words such as silent and bare in a positive way, in the fact it lets him admire London. Wordsworth then names a list of man made objects. Ships, towers, domes, theatres and temples lie. Wordsworth then contrasts the man made buildings with the beauty of the natural world. Open unto the fields and to the sky, has a positive connotation and blends London into the natural world. He comments on the cleanliness of the air All bright and glittering in the smokeless air using upbeat words with a positive connotation such as Bright and Glittering to make London seem a better place. The rest of the sestet is based around the natural world and begins with: never did the sun more beautifully steep showing the poets feelings about that particular day, It is the most beautiful the sun has ever been. This view of London has a calming effect Neer saw I, Never felt a calm so deep The phrase could refer to Wordsworths soul when he says so deep, that the effect has even reached a spiritual level. Wordsworth emits a feeling of freewill The River Glideth at his own sweet will The poet uses this line to suggest a sense of freedom, in that the river can glide at the pace it wants to, it has the choice. The penultimate line of the sonnet starts with the exclamation Dear God! the poet thanks god for the beauty of the city in this exclamation. The last line creates a feeling the city could spring to life later: And all that mighty heart is lying still! This line uses personification to make the city seem more life like when he emphasises the city is sleeping. But also to indicate that like a human it could come to life at any point From A London Drawing Room begins with a feeling of emotion expressed mainly through weather. The sky is cloudy, yellowed by smoke Eliot uses pathetic fallacy to suggest the yellowed smoke comes from factories that are polluting in the age of industrialisation. The next line outlines Eliots boredom For view there are the houses opposite This continues the negative connotation for the fact the houses are probably dull, and its all Eliot can see. Eliot then uses words with a negative connotation and with a pessimistic tone: Cutting the sky with one long line of wall is suggesting the man made wall is scarring the beauty of the natural world. The phrase also uses alliteration to suggest the continuous boring pattern and the way nothing changes. Another line which creates a very negative feeling about London is Like solid fog: far as the eye can stretch The poet uses the simile of fog as it is impenetrable to show the monotony of London to the poet and how tedious and uninspiring it is. Eliot then explains that poets cant gain any inspiration from the scene and it stifles their imagination Without a break to hang a guess upon. This metaphor is used to show there is nothing for the imagination to grasp. Eliot proceeds on to discuss how Londons dull nature and darkness effects the natural world No bird can make a shadow as it flies which gives the impression London is very dark, and even the natural world cannot make it more pleasant. Eliot then suggests London is covered up when Elliot says By thickest canvas, where the golden rays are clothed in Hemp Hemp is a thick material and the poet is suggesting that the hemp is blocking out the sun, Eliot is using the hemp as a metaphor for the pollution suggesting it blocks out the sun. The poet also uses personification in suggesting London wears clothes. Eliot suggests none of the London citizens ever stop to have a look round, No figures lingering pauses to feed the hunger of the eye Elliot uses words with negative connotation to suggest theyre always moving and dont ever take note of whats around them. This theme is then continued in the next line Or rest a little on the lap of life Again indicating the fact the people of London just continue their normal lives with no thought. Eliot then uses personification and suggests that cars, cabs and carriages all act in the same way, hurrying along the personification makes it seem as if everything is just running in a system. The poet returns to the idea that everyone acts the same in the line All closed, in multiplied identity. The last three lines are the opinions of the poet and state that London is like one giant prison and that everyone is enslaved, With lowest rate of colour warmth and joy this is pessimistic when conveying the lack of colour feeling and emotion within London. The two poems in comparison are very different. They both have very conflicting views on London, and both poets mention London in different ways. Upon Westminster Bridge conveys London very highly in an optimistic way whereas From A London Drawing Room is much the opposite and looks at the negatives. It has a pessimistic tone throughout. In phrases such as Like solid fog: far as the eye can stretch which create a gloomy feeling. The poems despite being very different at first glance have many comparisons between them. They both talk about the air one describing it as Glittering in the smokeless air the other saying yellowed by smoke this shows the comparison of the poets views. Both poets also express views on the man made structures and the natural world and compare the effect London has on it. Such as Cutting the sky with one long line of wall which is used in From A London Drawing Room. Upon Westminster Bridge Combines the two and discusses their beauty and magnificence whereas From A London Drawing Room takes feels that London is killing the beauty of the natural world with its dark nature. Both poems are even similar to the extent they use the same aspect of personification in using garments or material to have an effect on the city but once again one is the positive garment and the other is heavy and dull Hemp. Overall despite the poems being very different in their depiction of London they share lots of similarities, in how they describe the city and natural world despite taking the conflicting views on it.

Preservation of the cut flowers Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 1250 words
Preservation of the cut flowers - Essay Example In most of the cases, people just store these flowers in water, which is absolutely not enough if the purpose is to keep those flowers healthy for a long time. Thus, the technique of growing plants, cutting the flower and the medium used to store them are important in order to store flowers for a longer time. In this experiment, two factors were more closely studied, a) Nutrition in the water, b) pH of the water. Floral plants are grown indoors, in a garden or for floral farming. These plants need to be handled very gently. Their nutritional requirements need to be taken care of in order to get very good quality flowers. Various factors that need to be considered while growing plants are soil, temperature, light, watering and fertilizer. A good care of the plants will results in a better production of flowers. Flowers are cut from plants for two main reasons, a) to promote more flowering on the plants, b) to make a floral bouquet. In this project the focus is mainly on the science behind the preservation of the cut flowers. There are four main factors that play an important role in the storage of flowers they are as follows. Temperature is a critical factor. Photosynthesis in plants occurs from sunlight, carbon dioxide and water to produce sugars. Sugar undergoes respiration to produce energy. This energy is then utilized to produce a flower. Thus higher the respiration faster is the flower development and faster is its death. The rate of respiration is directly proportional to the temperature. Thus, higher the temperature, higher is the respiration rate. This is the reason why flowers are usually stored in lower temperature.

Developing and Interesting Interview
Developing and Interesting Interview Journalism and Society (9303) Discussion questions for the week two tutorials For Peter Clarkeââ¬â¢s chapter on interviewing from Australian Journalism Today, the questions are: What is it, according to Clarke, that makes the set piece interview of a public figure (often a politician) so dull and arid today? Clarke (2012) relays the manner in which Oââ¬â¢Brien asks a question and states that it is difficult to perceive exactly what is being asked due to the wording, also known as ââ¬Ëthe hollow danceââ¬â¢. It has all the surface attributes of an authentic process of inquiry and revelation but, upon analysis, itââ¬â¢s clear that very little information flows from the verbal content of the interview to the waiting minds of the viewing citizens. They have slim pickings in the form of generalised platitudes. The political interview between Gillard and Oââ¬â¢Brien seems so ââ¬Ëfrozenââ¬â¢ on both sides that it is almost useless. By asking such embellished questions with a lot of room for interpretation (use of metaphors, etc.) it has allowed Gillard, who is already media trained, to give a carefully crafted response which she can use to her a dvantage. In other words, the journalist has put the interviewee in a position of power which is not advised (Clarke, 2012, pp. 57-76). What are the main ways that interviewers can overcome this problem? Describe at least two of them as discussed in the chapter. Clarke (2012) explains that Carletonââ¬â¢s question is kicked off with a metaphor, but the image it conjured went swiftly to the nub of the event that had recently occurred and by implication, the intense emotions and fracturing of Labor traditions surrounding that event (Clarke, 2012, p. 59). Interviewers can consider the ratio of words they are using to question their subjects versus the amount of words being used to answer their questions. To achieve a more balanced interview transaction the interviewer could alter their technique, if necessary, to improve the outcomes of an interview. Additionally, interviewers can ask short, carefully crafted questions with a stronger interrogative thrust and fewer ââ¬Ëdistractionsââ¬â¢ for the wary interviewee to seize upon if avoidance is their main intention ââ¬â in the style of Leigh Sales (Clarke, 2012, p. 59). By keeping it simple and not asking double or triple barrelled questions, you are making it more difficult for the interviewee to stray from the answer you seek. Can you think of an interview you have seen or read or heard recently that you thought was effective and interesting? Describe what it was that made it effective and interesting for you. Recently I watched an interview between Andrew Denton and Hugh Jackman on Enough Rope. It was interesting because Jackman is notoriously difficult to interview, since he has been interviewed many times throughout his career. Understandably, it would become a bit monotonous. However, Denton managed to seduce the actor with his charm and casual interview technique. The interview escalated from conversational to confessional and Jackman recounted the moment he wet his pants on stage. Dentonââ¬â¢s technique was clearly effective, as he extracted personal and somewhat embarrassing details from his interviewee (Denton, 2004). Discussion questions for the week six tutorials For the chapter from Australian Journalism Today about covering traumatic events, the questions are: The chapter discusses the damage that can be caused by careless or indifferent coverage of traumatic events. What specifically is Kimina Lyall talking about? Lyall speaks of common practices that can aggravate powerlessness, such as camping outside a survivorââ¬â¢s home despite being asked to leave, or even filming a potential interview subject declining a request for an interview (Lyall, 2012, p. 35). Teichroeb (2009) states that he thinks itââ¬â¢s insulting to a victim to go in and take their story and leave and put it in the newspaper without having that relationship ââ¬â without them being able to say this is OK and this is not (as cited in Lyall, 2012, p. 36). The author also says to avoid the temptation to slot storylines into a series of pre-constructed narratives, such as the hero story or the constructed villain. This type of unthinking, formulaic reporting only serves to frustrate and compound survivorââ¬â¢s grief as well as reinforce the community perception ( as cited in Lyall, 2012, p. 36). Lyall (2012) mentions that journalists can be tempted into taking short cuts that dispense with basic techniques, including checking facts and verifying events with other people present (Lyall, 2012, p. 37). What is post-traumatic stress disorder and to what extent does it affect journalists? Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) is a psychiatric disorder that can affect someone who has witnessed a traumatic event, for example, through military service, surviving a natural disaster, or covering a school shooting. Some individuals will have stress reactions that do not pass with time and their symptoms can worsen. Individuals who suffer from PTSD often recall the experience through nightmares and flashbacks, have trouble sleeping, and feel isolated or estranged, and these symptoms can be extreme enough to significantly impact the personââ¬â¢s daily life. It can affect journalists by making them ââ¬Ëpsychologically homelessââ¬â¢ along with preventing them from returning to work because it is so severe (Lyall, 2012, p. 30). What are the main components of self-care for journalists? Lyall (2012) suggests creating a ââ¬Ëbufferââ¬â¢ between the work experience and the home experience by taking time out alone at the end of the assignment, through to exercise or immersion in family life outside of the working day (Lyall, 2012, p. 38). The first step is recognising the risks. Journalists should expect the possibility of experiencing strong feelings themselves, and recognise this is not a sign of professional weakness but a normal human reaction. Essential resilience advice includes getting enough food, water, sleep and exercise ââ¬â and reducing the reliance on alcohol ââ¬â during a distressing assignment. During the assignment, intense emotions should be expected, acknowledged and, if possible, shared honestly with colleagues either at the scene or in the newsroom. Journalists should not be afraid to seek professional help if symptoms persist (Lyall, 2012, p. 38). Reference List Clarke, P. (2012). The interview: a hollow dance looking for new moves? In M. Free Essays - The Mirage in The Great Gatsby :: Great Gatsby Essays
The Mirage in The Great Gatsby The Great Gatsby, written by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is a book of love and tragedy that all leads back to dreams and ideas, but never reality. Gatsby is a man of great wealth and is truly rich. Or is he? The Great Gatsby has many disguises that play a major role in several characters' lives, but mostly Gatsby's'. Gatsby believes that he will be very successful and get what he wants, including Daisy, if he is rich. He succeeded in getting money and living a life of luxury, but is never truly rich. He is always so set on the future and what things could be if this, or if that happens, that he never lives in the present. Because Gatsby never lives in the present, he ends up doing that permanently, and by the end of the book, he lives no more. When Gatsby was alive, he seemed never to be happy, because he was never satisfied with himself; Gatsby tried to change himself. He always tried to reach for his vision, which is represented by the green light, but never seemed to achieve it because he didn't ever live in the life he had; Gatsby lived in the life he wanted. F. Scott Fitzgerald uses green light to represent the unreachable dream in the future that is always being sought after and wanted by Gatsby, but never obtained. In The Great Gatsby, the green light is visible to many and always distant. To some, like Tom, it is just a light, but to others, like Gatsby, it is their hopeful future. As Tom said in chapter one, "I glanced seaward-and distinguished nothing except a green light, minute and far away, that might have been the end of the dock. When I looked once more for Gatsby he had vanished, and I was alone again in the unquiet darkness"(Gatsby 26). He saw a green light. That is all, just a light that may have been at the end of the dock. When Gatsby vanished, this represented him approaching and trying to attain the green light, which was his future he sought after and believed in. As Marius Bewley agrees, the green light represents his faith, "An image of that green light, symbol of Gatsby's faith, burns across the bay,"(Bewley 24).
